I’m sure there are other plantations in the area which really focuses on the history (like the Whitney plantation in Louisiana) This plantation is mostly focusing on nature, very beautiful with a nature tour, house tour, swamp tour (which was closed for restoration when we visited) and a slavery to freedom tour which was mostly a guide talking about the history. There are 4 slave quarters which we can see after that. We spotted alligators on the nature tour. There are peacocks freely roaming around the cafeteria area. The wildlife center behind the cafeteria has some animals including red fox, turtles, different birds of the area.

Beautiful gardens, probably better to visit earlier in the Spring. The only reason I don’t give 5 stars is because the iced coffee I bought in the cafe was the worst ever… tasted like pre-made coffee mixed with water, really bad. There is not a separate google location for the cafe so I leave it here, hopefully it helps to improve.

Visiting the beautiful grounds here was a highlight of our Charleston trip! Thank you so much to John for the informative "Slavery to Freedom" tour, it was a genuinely thoughtful and meaningful explanation of the history. I highly recommend making that a priority if you visit. The house was pretty boring, not much to see, but the beautiful grounds were very nice to walk around -- we saw a ton of small gators and a huge variety of birds.

Beautiful gardens and grounds. The house tour and "from slaves to freedom" tours are included in the price. We did both. They do a good job telling the story of the enslaved people that the plantation was build on. No sugar coating or glamour, which I appreciated. Not all American history is good. The staff are knowledgeable and very willing to answer questions. The gardens are beautiful to walk through.

We had a beautiful day for our tour! We spent about 1 1/2 hours wandering the grounds. The gardens are gorgeous and the Long White Bridge was so cool. While we were there a girl was having senior pictures taken on the bridge and a bride and groom were taking pictures. We saw several alligators and lots of turtles! The Slavery to Freedom tour was sad but an eye opener about the lives of the slaves. It is unimaginable to think about how they lived and how hard they had to work. We enjoyed the train ride through the grounds. It was a great way to see the entire plantation! I loved the house tour. It's a beautiful house with some neat furniture and dishes and pictures of the generations of family who lived in the house. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and did a great job! We thoroughly enjoyed our day!
